Insulting the Nabi SAW

"Those who follow the Messenger, the Prophet who can neither read nor write, whom they will find described in the Torah and the Gospel (which are) with them."

[Surah Al A'raf verse 157]

Wa Ba'd:

Anybody who has studied the Most Noble and Holy Qur’an will know that Almighty Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala has recorded multiple instances spread throughout various chapters of the Glorious Qur’an on how the Ambiya Alayhim Salaam were physically attacked, rejected, ridiculed, laughed at, scorned, spat upon and cursed in the most obscene ways and how the Prophets themselves felt the great pain inflicted upon them. In verse 7 of Surah Nuh, we find Nabee Nuh Alayhis Salaam complaining to Almighty Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala:

“(O Allah!) Every time that I have called to them, that Thou may forgive them they respond by trusting their fingers into their ears, cover themselves up with their garment. They are obstinate and they have given themselves up to arrogance.”

Our Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam is no exception. It is with Mercy and compassion that Almighty Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala sent him as a great blessing to all the creatures of the world. Almighty Allah declares in verse 107 of Surah Al Anbiya:

“We sent thee (O Muhammad) as a Mercy to all creatures.”

Despite the fact that Almighty Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala has honoured His Beloved Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam, the Holy Qur’an confirms and records the vile and hurtful curses, the insults, the Fithnah and the hatred directed towards him. They referred to the Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam as an insane magician, they called him a perpetual liar, an imposter and a disbeliever of their pagan religion. All these accusations, lies, innuendoes, and curses are preserved and recorded in the Most Holy Qur’an.

Surah Al Anbiya [The Prophets Surah 21] begins with the external obstacles placed by evil people, and gives the assurance of Almighty Allah’s Power to defend his Prophets Alayhim Salaam, illustrating this with reference to Nabee Ebrahim Alayhis Salaam’s fight against idolatry. Nabee Loot Alayhis Salaam’s struggle against injustice and failure to proclaim Almighty Allah’s Glory by making full use of man’s God-given faculties and powers, and that of Hazrat Ayub Alayhis Salaam against impatience and want of self-confidence.

The Surah then continues with Hazrat Ismail, Hazrat Idris, and Hazrat Dhul Kifl Alayhim Salaam against want of steady perseverance, Hazrat Zakariya Alayhis Salaam against spiritual isolation and that of Sayyidatina Bibi Mariam Alayhis Salaam against the lusts of this Doonya. In each illusion there is a special point about the soul’s purification. The common point is that all Prophets’ Alayhim Salaam had to win their ground inch by inch against all kinds of resistance from evil.

Almighty Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala wants us to remember that although all the Prophets Alayhim Salaam were the noblest of His creation, He had honoured them but they all had to endure great suffering, humiliation, hatred, ridicule, curses, and hardships. We know about the terrible things that were done to our Beloved Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam by the Kufaar of Taif. The purpose of his trip to Taif was to deliver the Message of Islam to the inhabitants of the city.

The people of Taif turned out to be as cruel and as hateful as the people of Makkah and the elders of the town organized a campaign to insult, mock, humiliate and ridicule the Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam by preventing him from preaching Islam. They gathered all the town hooligans with the purpose of wounding the Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam and driving him out of town by pelting him with rocks. It is reported that after the Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam took refuge from the stone-throwing mob, Hazrat Jibra’il Amin Alayhis Salaam came to the Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam and informed him that he would bury the city of Taif between two mountains if the Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam desired it.

When the Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam was so severely beaten in Taif, none of the Sahaba Ridwanullahi Ta’ala Alayhim Ajma’een, or members of his family demonstrated or displayed their rage by taking up arms by attacking the people of Taif. None of them went out on a screaming rampage because they knew fully and understood that the Holy Qur’an didn’t just instruct them to love and honour the Beloved Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam, but also taught them how to respond to the attacks and insults. Almighty Allah had instructed His Beloved Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam in verse 10 of Surah Al-Muzzammil how to respond:

“And (Muhammad) have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble dignity.”

In this verse Almighty Allah commands His Beloved Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam to be patient regardless of whatever his tormentors may say or do. So with this verse, where do we Muslims justify our anger by behaving in an un-Islamic manner by killing, and attacking innocent people because of their insults leveled against Almighty Allah’s Beloved Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam. Almighty Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala has honoured His Beloved Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam with his name inscribed next to His in the Shaha’dah:

“La Illaha Illalahoo Muhammadar Rasooloollah!

The enemies of Islam cannot ever hurt, harm, or take away the honour that Almighty Allah has bestowed upon the Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam. Absolutely nothing on this planet can take that away. No cartoon, no video, no movie, no newspaper article, no hatred, no speaker, no hate speech and no form of art can take away or deprive the dignity, the honour, the Muhabbat and the nobility of Allah’s Rahmatul Liel Ala’meen Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam. All this hatred against Islam and the Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam are futile attempts to undermine the True Message of Islam. If Muslims respond in an un-Islamic manner by resorting in unnecessary violence are we not playing into the hands of our enemies? Almighty Allah Informs His Beloved Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam that He has cursed His enemies in verse 23 of Surah Muhammad:

“Such are the one’s Whom Allah has cursed for He has made them deaf and blinded their sight.”

They are cursed and deprived of Almighty Allah’s Grace: they are left straying because they deliberately rejected Allah’s Guidance. The result is that what they hear is as if they had not heard, and what they see is as if they had not seen. They have no desire to understand Allah’s Will or the revelation of His Beloved Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam because they have locked and bolted their hearts and minds so nothing can penetrate them. Almighty Allah then informs the Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam in verse 48 of Surah Al-Tur:

“And be patient (O Muhammad) for the decision of your Lord, for indeed you are under Our protection. Exalt Allah with Praise when you arise.”

In this verse Almighty Allah informs the Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam that he must strive his utmost to proclaim Allah’s Message: as for the outcome of the results it is not for him to command them. He must bear with Sabir in the knowledge that he is never forgotten by Allah, but is constantly under Allah’s care and protection. And he must glorify Allah’s Name, as he is a standard bearer of Allah’s Truth. In verse 9 of Surah Al Tahrim Almighty Allah’s informs his Beloved Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam about the destination of his enemies:

“O Prophet! Strive hard against the disbelievers and the hypocrites and be harsh upon them. Their destination is Jahannum, a wretched destination.”

We live in a very strange world today. When you attack members of any visible minority you are labeled a racist. When you attack the Jews you are guilty of anti-Semitism. When you speak out against gays and lesbians you are guilty of homophobia. When you attack a religious sect you will be guilty of hate speech. When you speak out against women’s groups you will be guilty of sexism. When you express your hatred for Islam and Muslims you are indulging in Islamophobia. Yes, but when you attack the Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam they call it “freedom of speech”.

The producers and perpetrators of the latest piece of filth and their cohorts imagine that by insulting the Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam, they will bring down Muslim morale and weaken their spirits. Little do these deranged specimens of humanity know that a Muslim is one for whom it is a great honour to show their undying love for the greatest man who walked upon the face of this earth. It is really heartening to note that despite all this hatred for Islam, the Din of Haqq continues to spread like wild fire and this is driving the enemies of Islam to great despair.

If we tolerate the wrong, or encourage the wrong by allowing the Fithnah against us to run rampant by resorting to unnecessary violence we fail in our duty to Almighty Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala and His Beloved Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasalla, The Muslim Ummah today stands exactly where the early Muslims stood when they were hemmed in from all sides by the most powerful countries at the time. It is unfortunate that the enemies of Islam have been unable to drink from the fountains of life that springs from the Divine religion of Truth.

They continue to block the Divine Light that Islam and the rejection of Divine guidance is not allowed to penetrate the hatred that they have in their hearts for Islam, for the Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam and for the Muslim Ummah. With the ingoing volcanic eruption of Muslim anger raging throughout the world in the midst of what the movie perpetrators considered their paradise, and their impregnable fortress of power under the guise of freedom of expression to insult and to humiliate, the truth of the matter is that world is now bound to realize the great importance of Islam and to adopt its principles even if it does not formally embrace it as a religion or way of life.

As for the servants of Islam, we admit that we are fully alive to the fact that the road ahead is no bed of roses. We must march on with heads held high and must make whatever sacrifices are called for great and many sacrifices, in order to convince a hateful world of the intrinsic goodness and Truth of Islam. But let us bear in mind that the only way towards that end is through self-sacrifice and self-immolation for this has been made very clear to us in verse 30 of Surah Al-Ahqaf:

“It guides mankind to the Truth and to the Straight Path.”

And Almighty Allah knows best.
