The community of the Western Cape was profoundly saddened by the demise of our esteemed Shaykh Mas’ood Ahmad Kagee in 2017.
May the Almighty Allāh grant him a high abode in the Jannah and the reward of carrying the Holy Qur’ān in his heart, as well as the remuneration for
imparting it to several students throughout the course of his life.
Shaykh Mas’ood, as founding member of the Madressa, had taken the initiative to establish a centre of excellence in Islamic education.
Shaykh Mas'ood was the eldest son of Moulana Goolam Qutboodien Kagee. He matriculated at Belgravia High School and studied Tajweed under
Shaykh Fu`ad Gabier. He pursued his studies further in Makkatul Mukarramah, where he completed Hifz (memorisation) of the Holy Qur'an.
He returned in 1412 (1991) and served this institution until his demise. He wasactively involved in teaching students the Holy Qur'an and Islam at the
Habibia Soofie Masjid, as the principal of the Institute for the studies of the Holy Qur'an (established in 1996).
Hafiz Mas'ood was instrumental in leading and organizing the annual Taraweeh Salaah at the Masjid.
He will always be remembered for his love and commitment to the Holy Qur'an, and his passion in teaching it to others.
